hi im wondering whether it will be cheaper to get a diff company to comply my car that i just bort. is there any shops in perth that are fairly cheap and do comply aristos? thought about doin it myself but dont have time to run back and forward to the pits....
anyone in perth been in the same boat (no pun intended)? _________________

I have never heard of anyone complying there car them self...so im guessing thereÃÔ a good reason for that. Im pretty sure only work shops can do that.
Not sure if u know this but the Pits and going for compliance are two separate things.
I'm getting my complied at Distinctive Car Imports here in Perth its cost a bit more then compliance over east but when you put in the cost of getting your car back to Perth it ends up costing the same anyway. _________________
from what i have been through, theres 2 ways, 15 year rule or SEVS, only exemption other than that is race only import or personal import, ie you have lived in a country for x amount of years and have owned the vehicle etc etc. 15 year rule exempts certain cars from current ADRs due to there age and minor work can be done by the owner. then theres SEVS, specialist/enthusiasts vehicle scheme .if your car is not on the SEVS register then bad luck. SEVS cars must be complied by an APPROVED RAWS workshop. SEVS is pretty much an imported cars version of a rectal exam. as for where to comply, i have a few friends in the business ex east whom get alot of work from WA. this might tell you something. not shooting down the local guys here who comply them, its just theres a few who ask ransom money for compliance due to the lack of competition over here. will save the compliance horror stories for another thread...

If you can get the car shipped into Perth direct from Japan, then compliance locally will save you money. Otherwise, it's much of a muchness.
everyone seems to quote around 3 grand, but doesnt seem to cover much, ie fluids and stuff plus a cat change. mine has standard exhaust, but adj suspension, rims, tint i think, diff steering wheel and shifter so they need to be changed to stock. _________________
will find out how much it will cost at dci and overeast to swap all the parts and stuff for me etc. which ever works out faster or clearly cheaper and maybe alittle longer. _________________

i reckon u should comply in perth if you can. if i had to import another car i would complied in perth. with my recent 'dealings' with compling my aristo in qlds with longdens, didn't have a very good 'experience' with them (Forsaken will second that too) at least if the car is phyiscally in perth any 'issues' the workshop is in the same state.

How have you bought one already if you aren't up to speed on the process of getting it here, complying it and getting it on the road
To import you'll need to know who's going to do the compliance before it is approved to come in. _________________

You can get it on a boat, but without the import approval you ain't getting it off the docks and you have three days when the car arrives to get it cleared, then they start charging you storage per day. They can pretty much charge whatever the hell they want and if you don't pay it, you don't get your car.
Mate, if you have any compliance questions please feel free to ask me.
1. Aftermarket parts will be changed by the workshop, it may or may not cost you extra.
2. The 15year old rule has been scrapped. Its only vehicles older than 89 or 88
3. If you put a car on a boat without 1st having import approval, then the docks/customs can tell you to ship it back.
4. You cant just change your mind about where you want your car complied AFTER you have a workshop submit import approval. You need a VERY VERY good reason, not just, ohh its easier for me, or it got shipped to the wrong dock. Its not acceptable and DOTARs will tell you stiff sh!t.
PS - To apply for import approval costs money, usually around $165, so if you decide to stuff a workshop around by somehow changing compliance to another shop, then they can charge you, or refuse to submit the transfer.
5. Only approved RAWS workshops can comply vehicles under SEVS.
6. Dotars is currently VERY strained with over 500 VICs (applications to plate a car) in their system to approve. Depending on the date and sometimes luck, you might have to wait up to 3 weeks for them to approve your compliance plate application.

get it complied where you can go see the work done. having mine complied interstate was a mistake... ~5k it cost me... for a stock aristo _________________
