wasnt sure where to post, but getrag is the 6 speed and r154 is the 5 speed, anyone switched on about the stregths and weeknesses of each, very interested in manual conversion and may start next week, curious about prices also what needs to be done, and why,

any help is greatly appreciated
cheers Rhys:)

Getrag is pretty much unbreakable when looked after, 5 speed is strong but no where near as strong and they do let go when you are running allot of power.

Price for conversion= lol, Price for 6 speed = lol

5 speeds are not priced that badly but if you can go the get getrag it's a much better gearbox.

word of warning do not expert this to be cheap or easy in the slightest!

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Toyota/Gear-boxes/auction-260930121.htm

there was a 2nd hand one for $6250 there from some one else too...
they did have a brand new R154 also, but i guess it sold, for $3500 i think.

Pretty easy. Clearly the 6 speed is a stronger box, however if you aren't chasing over 350-400rwkw the R154 will do the trick, and save you thousands.
