I'm slowly getting the deal of the automatic, but after only every having a manual I have a few questions.
1 The overdrive button, do you leave this on around town, so it sits on some stupidly low revs at speeds of 40-60 or does this do harm to the transmition.
2 When doing burnouts to warm up the tyres, do I just stick it in low keep my foot on the brake a little , have the power button on and floor it and leave it reving on readline, beacuase thats what I was doing and every time I moved it into 2nd the revs started to drop and it bogged down, so I went back to 1st.
3 when your sitting still with the car idling with it in park and you then touch the brake pedal should you feel the plastic surround where it has PNRD2L click everytime you do it?
4 I assume just over 2000rpm is were it should sit when doing 100 klm/h
Yeah the auto's easy to drive but I'd rather a manual anyday.

Yep, leave it in overdrive and you will get better economy due to it sitting at lower revs to maintain speed (switch it off and notice how the engine will need to rev more to maintain the same speed, more revs = more fuel consumption). From memory you really only need to take off overdrive when towing with the car to stop the poor tranny fluid overheating.

I think my auto might be starting to play up a bit, because if I floor it and the revs get to about 4500-5000rpm then I lift my foot off it continues to hold that gear and revs like a bitch for a good few seconds then it drops back a gear (it almost seems like its not in anygear at the time because your decelerating but its still holding onto the revs)
Its only just had a fluid change, but the clowns didn't do a full flush, I gave them 12 litres plus the filter and they only drained the trans sump It has a pwr trans cooler on there which they also fitted and thought it would be a bright idea to locate it between the radiator and air con condenser/radiator thing, there's buckleys chance of getting line off the cooler to do a full flush now without taking the radiator off
So I will take the car soemwhere else and get it fully flushed.

well i think that if you go from WOT to NO THROTTLE it somewhat messes up the car, as far as shifting goes. reason i think this is because at WOT past the 4000 rpm you should be running full twin turbo boost. when you realease the throttle i think the computer rather slows things down, especially because you FORCE it to shift up.
unless you were in 2nd and then push the lever to D, i think in that case it should take even more miliseconds for the computrers (engine and tranny) to respond accordingly.
the computers do this for the sake of the ride comfort. i think the auto trans will more try to shift while reving the engine and THEN release throttle, because if applied no throttle during/after shift, well lets just say i never do that on a standard. imagine completely releasing from WOT and THEN shifting up. how stupid would that be.
i always apply a little throttle as i shift UP and even DOWN. basically i think the computers try they best to do the same.
this is why when you do what you do instead of feeling G force pushing you foward (like when braking) because you suddently decelerate (wich a manual car does when you release from WOT), the car just keeps reving, shift, and then release throttle.
i dont think theres anything wrong with ur tranny. were there pieces of junk in the oil drained ? i belive you shouldve checked it yourself, as its no any harder then doing a engine oil change.
EDIT / as far as burnouts go, i leave the shifter in D to do em. hold the brakes lightly, rev slowly untill 2000rpm, this is where my tires usually go in a spin. then i either release brakes and stomp the gas, or you can hold the brakes a little more, till like 4000rpm and then that makes huge ass smokeclouds.
fair explaination there Kame, I re-read my post, and thought about it for a while then went for a drive and noticed it doesn't have to be from wof for it to happen you can accelerate at a fast pace then lift your foot up a bit but continue to accelerate and it still happens , (the same as if you go from wof to very little or no throttle) the reason for me driving like that is say you accelerate then see your speedo and go ow shit, so you lift your foot up ow and its worse when the PWR button is on.
Will just get a full oil flush and see how it goes.
Thanks for the tip on the burn out, last time I had the windows open and the sunroof and it wasn't long before the car was full or smoke
