Aristo - Preppin for a road trip

Hey guys,

Driving from melbourne to Robe along the GOR (~9hr drive I believe). Just wondering is it a good idea to take down a 93 Aristo with 95,000km, stock tranny cooler, stock radiator, hydraulic (stock) fan +stock waterpump. But with new timming belt and serpentine belt. And brand new fluids (coolant, trans, engine).

Also the stock side mount cooler and transmisson cooler are they sufficient for a car that will be kept bog standard?

I'd say you'd be very comfortable with driving an Aristo over such a distance.

And the cars have survived 15+ years in stock format - so if you're not upgrading power then you don't really need to upgrade cooling...

i have done a 1600km round trip in mine no issues - bog stock 1997 with 145K on the clock. managed to get 650km's out of a tank of fuel as well ... suprised the hell out of me Very Happy

gotta love cruise control ...

though in saying that - last time i drove GOR it wasn't exaclty cruise control material haha

Have done the Toowoomba to Melbourne trip and back a few times now (approx 17 hrs), and ive never had a problem with the Aristo. Fantastic cars for long trips: cruise control + awesome overtaking power = Cool

Just make sure u have a good sound system!!!!!

Just take the usual/obvious precautions when going on a long trip, such as keeping some extra water, check all fluid levels before you go etc. No reason why an aristo should be different to any other car in this regard

mate id trust an aristo over a commodore or falcon anyday!

engine and tranny can take a lot more power then the car generates in stock form, as such id be very comfortable in driving it in harsh conditions.

just got back from my trip to canberra

and i must say even though i was really hung over the drive back was very pleasant in the aristo

managed to do 1222kms in 13 hours and apart from fuel and air in the tyres i didnt have anything to do to the car

Ive just done Adel to Melb in my bus for the 2nd time and was again an absolute pleasure. I check the oil level when i fill up with fuel about half way at Horsham as it does use a tad but not much to worry about, but good to keep tabs on how much its using.

The only small bother i have is the slight delay in power after it has grabbed 2nd gear before overtaking. Ive found if you give the throttle a gentle squeeze before you plant it, it reduces it somewhat. But when she comes on, hang on =)
