Just wondering if anyone knows what the shelf life of tyres are? Have seen some online from as long ago as 2006 production, would these have degraded any by now?

Rubber starts degrading as soon as it is introduced to oxygen (oxidation)..

My summary of that great article (thanks Chappo!) is basically you need at least 3-4 N/mm peel strength before the failure rate starts ramping to the extreme.

Peel strength decreases logarithmically with time and temperature and that's about it (mileage is almost insignificant)
Thus, tyres sitting on the shelf 'age' as fast as those in use on your car!

The "4 N/mm" barrier seems to be crossed on average somewhere between 2 and 4 years, so basically in summary of that article, I wouldn't buy tyres that were more than about 3 years old, especially given the hot temperatures in Australia.
