Now I know this is an embarrassing admission but in the last few weeks I have committed a biggie.
I have 9.5" rears and was looking to replace a couple of pirelli zero 285 30 18s with what I felt was bargain Yoko's Advan 103s on Ebay - however thinking that going to a 40's profile (285 40 18s) would give me a more comfortable ride and checking out clearances I thought "yeah, do it!" well I did it and now have an unfortunate situation where I am scraping tyres, when hitting small uneven road surface of going round corners..... Now my TT has been lowered already and has stock shocks fitted 12 months ago, but question remains - do I do my newbie tyres for a 35s or is there a way of raising the suspension? Whats the more economical solution - new pirellis are $360 new?? but I can stop and the kids indefinitely riding in the rear .... or can I?

if you like the ride height, change tyres,if you want to keep fat tyres, raise the rear with coilovers
coilovers all round$800-1300
tyres $600 for 2(275x18)

Thanks guys for the responses...

They pose interesting thought.

1. budget at the mo is not going to coil overs (thats down the track)

2. 275 35 18s for $600? what type?

3. Guards: yep mainly the plastic strip, but sometimes when petrol tank full the scraping seems to be coming from wheel arch - bit scary!

There are a few P Zeros (275 35 18s) on ebay for $330 each plus $40 freight - tempting Smiley but I would like to get a couple of Nitto Invos same size - reposts I've read indicate good performance coupled with good wear and thats the hardest trade offs..

You need to give it a good inspection and figure out what is rubbing! It shouldn't be that hard to spot the signs.

You say you have it lowered, but then also say it's on stock shocks... so is it shortened springs on stock shocks? If so, you can go back to standard height springs if you like.. should bring it back up a bit.

Alternatively, if it's scraping on the outer lip of the wheel arch, you can roll the lips of the fenders. It's pretty cheap and easy to do. Lots of guys DIY it with a piece of wood (lol) but even borrowing a guard roller from someone you will be able to do it for <$50.

If you're actually scraping on the wheel arch itself though I'm not sure what you could do.. you must be massively tucking tyre to get it that high up inside the wheel arch. You'll need to swap out the tyres again or raise it somehow (coilies)

Yeah, think I'm going to go with getting a couple of Pzero 275 35 18s ..... someone has offered $400.00 for the 285 40 18s and I guess I am lucky that offer is on the table.

Great input though everyone - thats what I love about this site .... Just like the car itself, brilliant! Cheers Smiley
