I am hoping someone can help me out with the rules on how this works. I have put a deposit on a car that has the complinace done and a RWc in VIC. However I live in QLD so I will be the first registered owner in Australia. What I am wondering is are there any special rules or fees for first time registration in the country. Does first time rego attract a stamp duty tax? Can the car have any mods for first time rego or does it need to be standard?

i was always told it needed a factory airbox for compliance,no air pods, but it could be all up the person who signs of the roadworthy.I would call the d.o.t
It has had the compliance work done. Just wondering about the first registration process. I range QLD transport and the bloke reckoned that if it passes roadworth then first rego is not an issue, but I have my doubts if he understood what I meant by first rego.
for 1st rego, the car just needs to be stock. This is what the compliance place does, because for them to apply for a compliance plate they need to provide proof that the car is stock and has had all the additional requirements met (eg. baby seat mount points, disabling the middle tail lights, etc).
so, if you take the car for rego as it is when received from compliance, and they reject you for something, you should be able to hassle the compliance place for it _________________

Any help would be appreciated.
I just bought the other two tone aristo from hemish in melbourne and the whole first rego is pretty painless. In SA they only do a vehicle ID check not a full roadworthy but that didn't stop the inspector making me remove the tint. Other than that you will have to pay stamp duty but you have to pay that on any vehicle purchase import or not. Then rego and inspection fee on top. So basically the only added cost over buying a holden from your next door neighbour is the inspection fee which isnt much and you wont get the remainder of your neighbours rego coz the car isnt currently registered.
