hey guys, just wondering if any ones done it before...?
mine are off to replace the gaskets and i was cleaning them, and the factory coating is coming off in parts and is starting to look kinda horrible, so wondering if any ones painted them before, and can tell me if is a good idea or not, and what not to do.
any one done it before? got pics of it? wondering what it would look like in a colour u wouldnt expect, like pink or purple, or bright red or some thing. no idea what colour id paint mine tho yet.

Sorry for the late reply!
I just sanded the cover back as you said, used plastic undercoat and then auto paint and the clear coat. A fair bit of work. All from a spray can. Still not perfect, but not bad for an amatuer.
Mat black on the covers. Next timeI would go gloss I think???
how'd you get the raised lettering black?? i have always found it close to impossible to get it without getting spray everywhere, was it done by hand after you finished? _________________

yep by hand with a fine paint brush. BLOODY HELL it was hard to do. MANY, MANY, attempts! If you look closely it's a bit average. But pretty happy with it. Unless you are an artist, I wouldn't recommend it. Next time I would get an artist friend to do it for me!!!!!!!!!

Or you could take it to an old school signwriter who knows how to use a brush and mahl stick. I can do it my boss is extremely good at it. I do heaps of old Holden and ford hubcaps that have the painted centres. Just my 2cents and an artist is just as good to go to aswell.
