Got this email from a mate in the Skylines Australia club, and it seems everyone in the motorenthusiast community is trying to garner as much support for this event as is possible.
All this Anti-hoon legislation is getting to point of utter ridiculousness, and the local Govt solution is to bury it's head in the sand, fail to provide evidence that Hoon-drivers are the ones doing the killing on the road, and generally jumping on the Sulky-Nanna-Onward-Christian-Soldier Bandwagon...
Have a look through the email below, and if you can, come along, load up on guns and bring your friends etc etc as Mr Cobain once said. Ok perhaps not bring guns, but bring your friends.
Hopefully we can gain enough support within the community to actually make the point to Mrs Rann that there are a few of us out here that like our cars, and yes, we do actually vote... The hard part is going to be actually getting Australians to get off their asses, and do something to provide a united front... ha ha!
Cruisers,
We have been asked to forward this onto everybody and we believe this is important to Motor Sport fans and to our hobby of Cruising to help keep hoons off the street. We would encourage as many of you as possible to attend these events to show our government that South Australia has many Motor Sport enthusiasts who are tired of not having a serious & viable multi-purpose motorsport venue. Please read below!
Please forward it on to anyone who may be interested (any type of car enthusiast – 4-cylinders, drifters, circuit racers etc etc)
Regards

There will be a public meeting being held where all people who have an interest in the proposed Pt Adelaide Motorplex will have an opportunity to not only to hear from the consortium themselves, also from politicians, guest speakers etc. www.adelaidemotorplex.com.au
WHERE:
Masonic Centre – Commercial Rd (cnr Dale St), Pt Adelaide
Sunday Aug 23rd, at 2.00pm
Please attend if you can!
This will be followed by a;
Protest on Friday 28th August at;
Parliament House, Nth Tce in the city @ 5.00pm (that will bring the city to a standstill).
Police permits will be arranged and we expect total co-operation of the Police.
Everyone is to be on their best behavior as there will be a huge media presence. Bring your cars and your family. The events will be self policed so if you see someone doing something stupid that could harm the image of the modified car/motorsport community don't hesitate to report it.
We are an important part of the community and we (who do the right thing) deserve better treatment from the Media and the Government.
Consider this -
A footballer only has to purchase a Guernsey, shorts, some boots and pay his subs to play (the government and councils generally supply all the ovals and facilities).
Someone involved in modified cars/motorsport probably spends on average around $30,000 to 'play', whilst at the same time much of that money goes into local businesses creating jobs and apprenticeships.
Not only do we not have a place to play, we have a situation where by a private consortium, who wishes to build the track on the land the government offered them (and which the consortium offered to purchase or lease off of the government), with no taxpayer input required, has the offer knocked back because it will 'create more hoons on the public roads'.
If you want this Motorplex to become a reality, and can see all the positives for SA that will go with it, just spend a couple of hours of your life to attend the meeting and then the protest, making it one of the noisiest protests in SA history!
This is our one chance to show that we, the modified car/motorsport/business community are more than a just bunch of hoons who are a drain on society.
UPDATE 27/07/2009
THE PUBLIC MEETING for the proposed Adelaide Motorplex HAS NOW BEEN CONFIRMED!!!!!
SUNDAY August 23rd at 2:00pm
Masonic Hall
Cnr Dale Street and Commercial St
Port Adelaide.
Lots of info and speakers, plus the announcement of the date for the Rally in front of Parliment House
The Australian National Four Wheel Drive Council, the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association and Four Wheel Drive NSW & ACT have expressed concern today about Minister Daley’s press release “Tough New Rules for Car Hoons”. The release has drawn massive criticism from car owners across Australia. Labelling thousands of owners who modify their vehicle as hoons is unacceptable when the proper purpose of modifications is to improve durability, performance, handling and safety. It shows a complete ignorance of the need to adapt vehicles to meet specific conditions and an intolerance of individuality.
well we all got together at the local footy stadium. roders,4x4,minitrucks,cruisers,car enthusiast and engineers and they backed right down and went back to the drawing board. the turn out in newcastle was massive and we had the minster come along and he realised that there was some votes he was not going to see next election and backed right down this is the sport we chose we have the right to choose it .if 200 people wont to play soccer they build a soccer field. if 2000 people wont to choose motor sport as there sport then they make a law so they can't go figure . if people had some were to go with there cars then they are not on the streets are they. _________________
