Greetings Everyone
I know people here affectionately call the Aristo a barge or a boat and the like. The strange thing is that with a little assistance and I mean only a little, it can handle much, much better than people are initially led to believe. To my knowledge, nobody here has really looked seriously at Tanabe front and rear swaybars. I could be wrong, but I have never seen them fitted here in Australia. Maybe it's the total cost of 900 or so dollars that's holding everyone back? I know there is limited choice when it comes to the issue unlike other suspension components. Or put simply, maybe most owners are reletively pleased with the handling and ride quality of the vehicle and don't feel they need to inprove it? Afterall, it's one of the features of the car in the first place isn't it? Coilovers are one thing but stiffer swaybars can inprove the handling performance dramatically.
Sure, the Aristo is no light 2 seater and it never claims to be, but a quick bit of reseach shows that the current stock standard Falcon and Commodore are heavier! Considering the refinements that Toyota offer in the Aristo and a car that is somewhat older, this is a very interesting fact indeed. I have never actually heard anyone call a commodore a barge. Well I have now. BARGE COMMODRE!
The Aristo is probably only 100kg heavier than the 'Pizza with the Lot' JZA80 Supra at the most and even less than that when compared with the Soarer. Now I am not saying that either these cars are light, but I am simply puttting things in perspective.
Have you ever picked up a stock 2JZ exhaust manifold and twin turbos? Change these over for a single and you have increased power and saved weight right there.

i was reading an article on whiteline.com.au about handling components. Swaybars being one of the most important.
if we can get those guys to make some swaybars , ie. someone buy some Jap ones first then hand them to whiteline to copy . We can probably get them to make it.

I've spoken to whiteline already about swaybars for the aristo. Don't need to get japanese ones, they simply need a stock front and rear bar sent to them. From that they can bend up new ones to any thickness you like. When I have the money I'll be sending them mine so after that they will have a design so anyone can order one. It will cost about 30% more over their normal bars since they have to bend them up custom per application. Though if anyone else wants to send them theirs first do feel free, I'm a ways off doing it. Would work if anyone has some spares too _________________

I want to get mine on the tack after i run a decent times at the drags, and after I go for a ride in my mates soarer with coilover and massive tyers all round it proves that a heavy car can handle very well!!!
But i dont think the autos would be very suited to a track? _________________

i bought the aristo with the assumption that it would be a boat, but i was fine with that. my last car was a skyline with coilovers and swaybars, and as well as it handled, the suspension just gave me the shits driving it every day. i bought the aristo so i'd have something comfy to drive.
needless to say, finding that the aristo actually handles quite well came as a rather pleasant surprise. mine has TRD damper adjustable shocks, and i assume TRD springs. so while it's not as stiff as a set of coilovers would be, i'd hazard a guess that it's had a little more development than your average off the shelf coilover setup has. and it pleases me that thus far, i havent found the limit of the suspension, and it's been pitcheed in to some pretty hard corners so far haha.
as for swaybars, if we can get whiteline to make some up, count me in for sure. as far as i'm concerned, the whiteline bars were the best suspension mod i made to the skyline. no differene to the ride quality, amazing amount of difference to the performance of the car. and even at 30% more than their off the shelf bars, that'll still be several hundred dollars less than the tanabe bars _________________
