Anyone bought a car that was a smokers car in japan ? good chance there are some out there as alot of japanese cars/owners seem to love smoking in there cars and filling the entire upholstrey with that lovely aromatic smoke !!!
So has anyone successfully minimised or gotten rid of the stench from there cars ???

When I got mine it was a mild smell - not a heavy smoker's car, but you could definately pick a whiff of it in the upholstery...
I pulled the aftermarket seat covers off and had the interior 'detailed' ie shampoo'd and washed i believe it was.
Couldn't smell a thing once I got it back
I'm not sure whether the fact that it had covers on stopped most of the smell sticking to the fabric or what, but once the covers came off and the underneath and the carpets were cleaned, smell was all gone! No guarantee's it will be equally as effective with a heavy smoker's car, as mine was only mild. Good luck! _________________

Yeh, i had had filthy Aristo mats in mine and spent a few hours cleaning them when i fist got the car.
I still had a stale smell in the car. A couple of weeks ago, I shampooed the carpet and smell gone. I just used some cheap in the can car shampoo and folowed the instructions getting rid of some stains along the way.
yeah, im gonna get car groomers to steam clean all the carpets, seats , hood (maybe depends sometimes they droop) and de odourise. i gotta mate who does it so can get it done mates rates.
should come up alright, just looking for feedback i guess.

you sure its not your filter in your air puri thats pushing the smell out? take the filter out and wash the sucker in bleach and hot soapy water, dry it and reinstall it, theres a tutorial on here on how to revive the filter, see if that makes any difference.
Also, a product to spray on the filter once its dry is meguiars car odor eliminator, good stuff. spray the rest of your car with it too. it got the post weekend fishing trip smell out of the boot of my dads magna (diamante actually - 2004 GTVi) so yeah has proven itself. _________________

Back to the detailing then....the best detailers take the seats and carpet completely out ie you have a bare chassis exposed and steam and shampoo them.
No point doing the bandaid method better to go the whole hog. _________________

for what its worth guys ,
the smell is mainly in your hood lineing,
being a detailer by trade,cleaning your seats and carpets, will for a while remove the smell,
but you have to attack the roof,or it will come back,i have used my extractor machine on the lineing
with good results, then went over the roof again by hand,this includes your sunvisers,
you also clean your air elament in your rear parcel shelf ,and before you put it back find some
deodoriser (car)that works for you,being i dont drive the car much ,the wife does, i put strawberry
in there ,the wife loved it, and keep your switch on high for a couple of weeks,
be carefull when taking it to someone with a cleaning machine guys, to much pressure WILL result
in pulling the roof lineing down,or at least making it sag,
all the best nick.......

hi rbdazzled,
what type of cleaner are we talking about, not the stuff that you shake in a can and it comes out like foam,that wont do the job,
any good stuff you use on your seats, you can use on the roof, its a plus if you do it by hand,
then you wont run the risk of pulling the lineing down,
the only reason i through that in, is i have seen it done,
a good carpet shampoo will do the job and a bit of elbow grease,

your right, its not what the roof lineing is made of, its how it is fixed up there,
as long as u dont go like a bull at a gate, you wont do any damage,cheers nick........
i may have [posted elsewhere on this question but how hard are the Clazzio leather look seat covers to remove? i mean they really look well fitted, but i guess they must have got them on there somehow...? is seat removal necessary for the fronts..etc?
