Hey guys.
I got a quote from Autobarn on the new LS front mount intercoller kit to suit the Aristo. $599-. Not bad retail from Autobarn of all places. This is the new one which is meant to be lighter than the M-spec. Might go well with my veilside front bar.

Daniel,
Is it really going to make that much difference on a stock spec Aristo?
Maybe the 20% weight reduction is worth the difference?
I'm not trying to be smart BTW, I am actually asking the questio coz this IC stuff is all still fairly new to me. I am considering this path, as I think the Veilside front bar I am going to fit may restrict the stock cooler somewhat.

I am far from knowing anything solid about these, but from what I understand, in general bar and plate (spec M) provide better heat exchange, but tube and fin (ie LS) have better airflow speeds, especially for airflow across it.
From what I can see on the pics provided in this thread, it seems like the LS will flow more air through it towards the radiator etc (thin tubes, lots of fins), but the bar and plate looks to have thicker bars and so i imagine they will flow well from L->R through the intercooler.
Very willing to step aside to someone more knowledgable though _________________

The airflow looks like its actually improved on the LS - It looks like they have cut down on the thickness of the horizontal supports.
That's what I thought?!?!? That's why I was confused?!?!?
Chris
I just made an assumption that the inner diameter of the M was larger, just going by the outside look. You'd need to look through the inlet or outlet have a proper look.
There is a 1-2psi drop over the stock cooler that people seem to pickup when going a FMIC, so its an extra bit broost you can have for no more turbine speed, or if you run the same boost you had before that's a little less work those snails have to do to achieve it.
When somebody gets one, take a pic of the inside for us all to compare.
MY weight fluctuates by more than 1.25 kgs from morning to night, so I doubt the weight saving here is even worth thinking about, let alone measurable.
If one was better at flow, and one was better at heat exchange, then I would not know which would be better suited for a stock turbo'd Aristo. See most of us have boosted the stockies right out of their efficiency range, so they are super-heating the air.
But if you had a big single making more power on only 1 bar, then heat might not be as much of an issue.

what about delta fin ICs? _________________

delta fin are just bar n plate with the plates angled so they're not so dead-on with the airflow across it.. thus faster flow across it.
I think they're supposed to provide slightly more heat exchange too but I don't particularly agree with the theory behind that..
I'm sure you can find a detailed explanation on google somewhere if you're really into it.
In all seriousness I think in <500rwhp applications it's not gonna make a bee's dick of difference _________________

i have seen the spec m still good at 360 rwkw, swapped for trust drag cooler only to gain 7 rwkw, trust/greddy coolers are good i stand by them for bang for ya buck
