Yeah having done it I can assure you that although you might AT BEST get the parts for 3k, there is no way known you would get it fitted for anywhere near that. It can't even be compared to other cars where manuals were available, because of the custom work involved. Mounting a clutch cylinder where there was never one meant to be for example.

However, at the end of the day it is only worth what somebody is willing to pay, and not a cent more Smile

Yeah, you're right there xscape, but the point I was trying to make was kinda along the lines of it not mattering how much you spend on parts/labour/etc, it's just something that doesn't add a whole lot of value to the car.

Having said that, if you managed to find someone who had more dollars than sense, you might just be able to get a decent amount for a manual 'risto.

I spose another factor in it is that you're not going to find many manual converted Aristo's with everything else stock as a rock bar the trans conversion. You'd be talking all the basic mods, probably a good service history, and more serious stuff in the way of kit, aftermarket computer, prolly a big single to go with it, etc. Manual conversion seems to be one of those things that people go for after a certain level of other stuff is done, due to the complexity.

Who knows xscape, one of us could be terribly wrong, or the answer could lie in the middle. Guess we'll never know, lol, the market containing manual 147's is prolly never going to be big enough to know for sure what a manual conversion is worth.

I'm just importing a 1997 Chaser auto with 78K on the clock....bringing it up to car yard condition I expect its value to be around $16 - $17000.

Aristos are suffering more from age more than anything else....a lot are 1995 and under. That's beginning to be a pretty old car even if it is a Toyota and it is high spec.

Mine's a 94 and it is going to stay with me for a while - I didn't buy it to try and make coin. I'd still be driving the Soarer but the baby came along so this was Daddys compromise LOL.

At the end of the day I expected to tear money up on resale - but not anywhere near as much as buying a 50K new domestic and tearing up 3 times as much. Even when I lose I win with imports.

Well said!

This thread makes me emo, my car was ment to be $13 400 all up, its ended up being around 17k then $800 for rego $550 for third party insurance, 3k+ for fixing things up that have broken and full service. and about 7 grand on mods with many being second hand and many not even fitted yet.

*sigh*

Same here mate, but an aristo destroying a GTR would make me allot happier then being in a GTR destroying an aristo.

Great / valid points ! Manual Aristo as im with Dan on this one since they werent release as a factory option id expect alot more then auto Aristo by a country mile Very Happy

My setup:

Quote:
JZA80 SUPRA RZ 6spd MT / HKS TRIPLE PLATE CLUTCH / CPU MINE'S VX-ROM, Injector 550cc, Racing Fuel Pump BOSCH, Fuel Regulator, Hi-Profile Camshaft, Racing Intercooler BLITZ, Oil Cooler TRUST, Turbine KKK K27MOJ, Boost Controller HKS EVC III, Racing Wastegate, Front Pipe, Air Filter, Stainless Exhaust Manifold, Muffler, Height Adjustable Suspension OHLINS, LSD, Gauges Boost, Water temp, Oil temp, Oil press, Exhaust temp

Basically the way i looked at going manual was the work had already been done on the car and was my most ideal setup for me as all the labour will be done by myself and a few mates ofcourse as for what i paid for the above setup would cost me double the cost and not to mention the time factor Smile

As to source all the parts for the conversion to me is a nightmare as already have the prop shaft modified along with park brake fitted / pedal boxes as just have to basically copy the half cut 6spd and apply that to my setup as arent expecting it to have it done in a hurry as will be taking my time with this to makesure it 110% before i drive her as my daily.

Being that 6spd boxes go for 3k+ and mine will be the only complied 6spd in Australia id be asking around high teens to near 20's for my setup as will have the single conversion aswell.

Anycase im not modifiying it to sell as the 6spd setup / single was just to good to refuse as lets face it the auto FWIW does get 'boring & predictable' as the 6spd can be driven in anyway shape or form which suits me fine Very Happy

http://www.modifiedcars-export-japan.jp/inventory/de0200123.html

I think we'll be trendsetters Dan as once people see the potential of 5 / 6spds more conversions will follow !

it may have cost 7900 but he does not have mine so ner ner hahaha

what im trying to say is what you pay does not really matter as it's your aristo and no one elses if that makes much sense

i could have imported for around 10-12g as i had located a few but thats stock i decided to buy daves (2jznosht) for the fact that the mods it had and the price i got it for far out weighed importing a cheaper option.

point of this topic was to post the price of your car, and i did that.
and no it doesnt make sense really. what are you trying to say ?
i was lucky with the price and was by no means rubbin it in anyones face !
as long as your happy thats the main thing.
it means that i can fully mod it and still be cheaper than buying one local.
all good.

Thats my exact point you hit the nail on the head, what i was saying is that it does not matter if you pay 5g or 50g in the end you have bought an aristo that is YOUR ARISTO and no one else has YOUR ARISTO so ultimately making it priceless to yourself.

i was in no ways having a dig at you. to get an aristo for 7900 landed and complied is bloody awesome and you are probally 5g ahead of anyone else who has imported so well done and i look forward to seeing your build up Smile and watch your aristo grow.

sorry if it came across as a personal assault i can asure you that it was not the case Smile all the best
