I bought myself a pair of pre-loved headlights and they arrived today.
They are really nice and clear unlike my yellowy ones. I paid $230- for the pair delivered. I thought this was reasonable.
When I install the new ones, is my car technically going to be unroadworthy due to the complience H3 - H4 swap thing? What is the reason for changing the globes at complience anyway?
Once I have swapped them I might give the old Soarer trick a try of popping them in the oven and pulling them apart. I have tried polishing them, but they are yeollow on the inside. I did this trick on my old EF Falcon and it worked well.

Compliance be damned, they can't touch you and any future roadworthy will not even address the bulb type unless you are doing something stupid like fitting HID's to reflector lenses.
I was going to try prying mine apart but the lenses are that bad I will just be buying new ones at some later stage.

I'm almost certain that they don't change the bulbs at compliance.
Fake Edit: I just check the sheet from the compliance workshop and it is not listed.
Well that may be the case, however I have read about this on here and i just took out the globes from my car and they are different from the originals from my new headlights.
For a start, the ones in my car are rated at 65w where as they should be 55w stock. I do realize that you can buy higher rated globes by the way, but they are a different shape on the twist socket and are not interchangable.
Both globes in the car (complience modified) are HB3 and the original Jap ones are HB4's. But the Jap ones are very slightly different between the high and low beam as decribed by the blokes in the UK on the thread linked below.
