do you guys just keep your lights on auto and let the car work it out on its own?
every time i drive under a bridge my lights come on... and they're not big bridges - one lane each way. the people infront of me must think i'm a dickhead... :/
is anyone else's sensor this sensitive? _________________

Manual for me......although I did use the auto function to see if it worked a couple of times.
I don't drive it enough to know how sensitive mine are..... _________________

It's always bright up here in sunny QLD, so I leave mine on auto. I have had the lights flick on and off at a local drivethru, but didn't think anything of it.
maunal - i have too..
cause whoever installed the turbo timer wired it up to the accessories worngly or something..
It keeps the radio and lights on until the car turns off.. however - the lights stay on unless i open and close the door..
i would have them on auto otherwise... but have to turn them off manually when i get outta the car in any case.. (unless i wait to get out once the turbo timer has gone off)
i see heaps of cars that go through tunnels and their lights come on and then go off.. and just know its the auto lights thingy... _________________

In auto, the lights stay on until I open the door (with the engine off). Are you saying that yours lights remain on until you close the door again?

The system Toyota developed has not changed in years. I always leave mine on auto, same in my Soarer, and when driving behind a brand new IS250 their lights came on and off for the exact same amount of time under each bridge.
Nothing wrong with it, there is a difference between your parkers turning on and flashing your high beams.
It will do a staged switch on, partial loss of light gets parking lights, more gets headlights.

sorry.... no, they remain on until i open the door once the engine has turned off...
so it taked about 30seconds for the turbo timer to run - engine goes off - so does everything else.. but lights stay on until i open (and close of course) the door!
annoying....
would like them to just turn off when i turn the key _________________

The sensor for the auto headlights is where Chickita said, on the drivers side corner under the windscreen. The one on the opposite side of the car is a temperature sensor for the aircon.
Can someone tell me- are there small dome caps on both of the sensors? I only have one on the temp sensor.

Yea, this one is for determining the conditions outside of the car not inside. If it detects that you are in direct sunlight then it will turn up the aircon more. If you are in shade then it will do the opposite to achieve the required temperature inside the car.
Also the sensor for your auto headlights is adjustable if it is too sensitive. All you need to do is screw the sensor in a direction and it will either make it more sensitive or less sensitive.
