Just wondering what your guys thoughts were on:

If going from a soarer to an aristo - is this considered to be an upgrade?

I'm assuming a lot of aristo owners have owned soarers previously.

Cheers
Dan.

I vote YES...
1J upgrading to a 2J (presuming that you have a 1J model Soarer (or could ge v8's in either an Aristo or Soarer))...
2 doors - upgrading to 4 doors! haha its sooo much difference having 4 doors if your used to 2 (I used to own a Supra...)

And well - Aristos just are 'in my opinion' - better looking Smile

100% upgrade.

The only thing I liked about the 1J was that they had the stall point set higher in the auto, so driving around town even without kicking back the converter would flare up & throw you right into both turbs.

Soarers of same age as Aristos have cracked vents, broken door trims, and are not as toight.

Too early for me to say - still driving my Soarer while the Aristo rusts away waiting for a compliance sticker.

I will say that I agree with the door trim and ac vents cracking, however the Aristo's seem to have their own foibles with window regs that are not common on Soarers, and the blinky dash on a Soarer is a lot easier to fix than the dead needle issue. Also not as prone to brake master cyl, suspension or water pump issues.

i myself went from a TT soarer to a TT Aristo.

IMHO the soarer is a little more comfortable to sit in and the interior holds the body very nicely. I often get sore cruising over long periods of time in the aristo. maybe ive just got to have a fiddle with the seats?

obviously im referring to sitting in the front here hey, if you often have people travelling in the back seats the aristo wins hands down.. NO SHIT!! Very Happy

Ok that aside, in every other way the Aristo flogs the soarer, looks being subjective.

The aristo's more powerful straight line and flogs the soarer on the freeway
better engine which is more reliable & has more potential if you throw money at it
Smoother and more comfortable over the bumps
Looks more in proportion than the soarer.
by god it has better handling, which dosent say very much as the soarer had shocking understeer!
Looks like a million bucks, most people still dont know what they are whereas the soarers are becoming too common nowadays
Better turbo spool up rate vs the 1JZGTE TT. not sure about how it stacks up to the VVTI 1J though
Attracts less police attention
Attracts more attention from everyone else lol
classier

and the list goes on.

that being said however, I paid over twice as much for my aristo compared to my soarer. and im comparing a base model soarer which had been thrased out prior to my ownership to an immaculate grade 3.5 import fully optioned aristo with very low k's

perhaps itd be more fair to compare a 1JZ VVTI soarer to a base spec TT aristo?

id have to go with the aristo, havent actully been in or even had a good look at a soarer.
but not big fan of the look of the soarer, and cant go past a 2J,
each to his own i guess, wouldnt mine the soarer weight but Razz
that is if they weigh less im guessing

mate theres only really about 100kg difference between the two cars, this can be made up by telling the kids to walk to school =)

I wouldnt consider the soarers weight to be an advantage over the aristo given the usual benefits in handling and power shown in lighter cars dont exist in the soarer.

If theres any soarer worth considering equally with an aristo its the UZZ32 active V8. it has more gadgets than your iphone and handling has been improved considerably as you can see in the following clip.
check out this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHK_2eoBaFU

just a side note though, my mates V8 limited recently had problems with his suspension. turned out one of the airbags was leaking and had to be replaced. cost him $400 to replace ONE airbag and this was from a backyard mechanic. so theyre not cheap to fix.

also the V8 active weighs more, and is actually slower off the line than the 4.0GT soarer. It also costs about as much as an aristo, so at the end of the day it comes down to what you want in a car and your personal taste...

I voted no, but not just because i have a Soarer

I dont consider either car to be 'better' than the other, they are just different and it depends what you want

For example i think Soarers look better, have a nicer interior and better suspension and the V8s generally have less engine faults and a longer life

*But* if i needed the extra space and 4 doors (plus the benefit of a 2JZ Smile i wouldnt hesitate to go Aristo (why else would i be here? Smile

What some people forget though is the majority of Soarers are now over 16 years old have been in Australia for a lot longer than Aristos and as such have done a lot more km's and had more owners

So of course you will find more of them that have faults and are in poor condition. Comparing such cars to a one-owner Aristo fresh off the boat from Japan like a lot of cars are on this forum is not really valid.

A late-model, low km Soarer either V8 or TT is still a fantastic car, and as little as 5 years ago you could easily pay $40k for one. GIve it a few years and Aristo's will go the same way, unfortunately.

As Aaron pointed out in a past thread all 3 related models (Supra/Soarer/Aristo) are all good cars, you choose whatever's best for you

Maybe you should paste this same thread in a soarer forum, I think it may be a little biased here Smile

It would be an upgrade though, for reasons people have already said above.
