Looking and looking and can't make up my mind....so I need some help. The only time I got to drive an Aristo the guy didn't have dealer plates and I got to drive it up and down the block...whoopee.

1. Are the 8 cyclinders OK ? I know they'll be thirsty but probably the same as the twin.

2. Are the twins better ?

3. What have people found importing ...

4. What sort of prices are being paid for V8's

Thanks for any info... Very Happy

Hey man. Too many questions to really answer in one hit. You really need to search through this site and you can find all the answers and make your own conclusions. Very Happy
Do a search on the key words like 'price' etc
I have only really only seen one V8 and it is documented on this site. The bloke imported it and I believe he has now since sold it. It is a 4WD, but if it's performance you are after, you can't beat the 2jz-gte. The same conclusion in the Soarers.

Everyone is here to assist and we seem to all be a keen friendly bunch. Have a bit of a look around first. There is HEAPS of info to be explored!!

Good Luck

Chris

importing one can work out to be fairly cheap... around 10-13k landed and on road ....cheaper for early model

most in the country go for 17-22k depending on condition and age

it depends what you want.....if you are prepared to wait 3 months for your ride and save the money or test drive the car and splash out more cash for one thats already here

the V8's are rare as, and would be worth getting but the turbo is faster

not much is known about the 4wd system in the aristo either

Thanks Rob....I can't find any info much about the V8's awd....they seem like a very good alternative.

Bullet proof V8 Toyota should get 350k's like a Merc....high flow exhaust would nearly take it up to 200kw from 190kw plus a cold air intake for low torque and throttle response.

I think its got great potential...

ps I've edited the post and header to V8

Only a few of the V8 models have made it into the country to date and I would LOVE to take one for a drive to see what they're like on the road. I think the extra weight of the awd system combined with the lower power of the 1UZ would mean it's performance would be a bit disappointing, but a nice supercharger would give it the kick in the pants it needs Smile

There was a clean V8 for sale from a user in Qld a month ago or so, not sure if it sold though. They tend to go for a bit more money in Japan than an equivalent tt model - I assumed at first that similar to the Soarer V8s, they'd be fully loaded with a lot of the standard equipment that are options on lower spec models, but I've seen UZS147 Aristos with velour interiors, so I think you could option them up exactly like you could the other Aristo models.

Much heavier mate...and there is no V6 model in the range. You have the Q (NA 3.0L I6), V (twin turbo 3.0L I6) and FOUR i (NA 4.0L VCool

very very different car to the Stagea! I really like the Stagea, my best mate just bought one and it's a great car. Not put together as well as the Aristo, the Aristos just feel a bit tighter, a bit more polished, but then again, the Aristo was a much more expensive car when new too Smile

Like Aaron said the 8 is heavier with less power than the TT, more of a cruiser though, they have airbag suspension, 4WD and that V8 symphony Smile

I'd really like one too, although I'd need to strap two turbs on it or a blower, and that's a lot harder than just boosting factory TT one.

I must admit a liking for the Stagea as well....something different but that NEO engine...wow.

So while we are off topic ....TT's that is....what about the 'run of the mill 3.0Q sort of cheap family cruiser? Under Y200,000 in Japan a very wide choice of colours including black. $8500 fully complied.

No big techno problems....?

Just a solid Toyota straight 6 free flow exhaust lift its performance to 175kw - 180kw.....

...and a full tank of BP Ultimate 102 High Octane.....oh not yet available Sad

Theyre ok the Q's but nothing to set the world onfire as just pay the extra for the TT variant.

But if you like NA he's one for 98,000yen with 16's & 17s thrown in Wink

If you shop around & import yourself you could get a TT for that price Smile

hmmm...replacing an 05 corolla with a v8 aristo...hmmm. only exception for v8s for me is a hi-tec cammer v8. you would need some forced induction though to get some decent power to overcome the weight as someone mentioned. would it hurt to remove the front driveshafts to reduce weight/parisitic loss / drag ??? Eeek Dance

I'd guess they have a viscous centre diff that wouldn't like it if you did that. Just add more power to overcome the weight.

Not really a huge fan of AWD myself, the JDM AWD variants of non-performance models (ie, not GT-R, EVO, etc) were designed purely for the snowy parts of Japan and will not be any faster or better handling than stock RWD models. In fact, as in the Aristo they will be slower because of the weight penalty and drivetrain losses, and will typically understeer more when driven hard becasue they dont have a rear torque bias

And lets face it, in a 1750kg car with a 1UZ, as nice an engine as they are you arent going to have any kind of traction problems that would make AWD beneficial until youre running a decent turbo or S/C setup, and even then the strength of the drivetrain at those power levels is an unknown.

So yeah in my opinion other than bragging rights there isnt much point to it

Toyota's AWD systems are developed from their GT4 AWD Rally spec cars such as the ST165 / ST185 / ST205....these cars won 38 WRC rallies and 2 World Championships.....

Your point about them being no better handling than a pure RWD model makes no sense, neither does the point that a V8 car delivering 190kw will not have traction difficulties.

Both the TT and V8 Arsitos are developed for superior handling and performance to match S Class Mercedes and the like....its a different philosophy than the EVO's, GTR's and WRX. But the end result is the same superior handling and safety.

i would hazard a guess that our nihon friends would have some sort of 2wd conversion kit for the aristo. they have them for evos gtrs and wrxs so it may be possible. would like to have one in 2wd, supercharged/turbocharged, would be something different in the sea of ford/holden rwd v8s. i would guess also without having the front wheel drivetrain dragging on the engine, could quite possibly reclaim some engine power perhaps but as uzz31 said it may be absorbed by its sheer weight. i know nissan have some good traction systems, attessa ets-pro etc but not know much about the toyota systems. either way the nihons arent known for making shit traction control setups.
