silly thread but with a couple of mates looking into jzx100s (autos) and the fact they are becoming fairly affordable .. so yes .. given that you were at that stage of parting with money again , which would you pick.,.

depends on alot of things really.

do they want to chase outright power? 1jz vs 2jz
size of the vehicle matter?
looks (imo the chaser is the better looking)
and so on and so on

what are your mates criteria?

well here's my debate ..

97' Jzx100 , $$ spent so far = 42gs+ , power = 198kw
93' Jzs147 , ---------------- = <18gs , power = 187.8kw

Alright so the one in the above example is manual and was 27 for the car to start off with,

but with the autos still the overall package I beleive is better on the Aristo. (maybe bias too now) but I think it further reduces the Aristo market (resale value, buying etc)

hmm

i maintain the aristo is the better value buy ... but the chaser does have that manual option which is nice ...

by the time i finish my 97 Manual Aristo will have set me back about 22K - after 6spd conversion.

The comparison is between what would otherwise be a Lexus, compared to a Camry.

147 better engine, more solid car, not a camry, but no manual option Sad
100 worse engine, less solid car, is a camry

I was just starting this exact debate with myself regarding future vehicles. Will watch with interest.

One thing that worries me with the Aristo, even a mint one, is that the 147 is getting old. I mean just all the trim, hoses etc etc is now 11 to 16 years old.

You can get a 2000+ JZX100 with the VVTi engine, which is a great donk capable of excellent economy. And with the right treatment they look great (especially in white Smile )

I went through this before I decided on an Aristo.

Chaser 100 series has a more aggressive look, but it's a bit of a boy racer look. Aristos are a more refined, subtle styling but can look mean - I have no real preference on the motors because unless you are going for a 1000HP ass tearer you can achieve the same with either engine on pretty much the same budget. 2JZ has more overall potential but don't underestimate the 1JZ either.

The things that influenced me the most were bang for buck and the interior. In my opinion Chasers are way overpriced when compared to other cars in the class. The interiors look cheap - like a Skyline R33 interior - cheap fabric etc.

At the end of the day they are both quick, reliable cars. I just think the Aristo is much better value for money.

I have had the odd evil though of changing to a 100, I think the main issue with me is the auto box. Buying a 100 with an auto doesn't seem to make sense to me as they are still quite expensive when compared to an Aristo

I reckon they look great with a nice body kit (and I am usually 100% against bodykits), nice set of rims etc....all I'd do would be put a 2J bottom end in and it'd be quite a weapon.

But, for the $$$ the Aristo is out in front in my opinion. Especially the way the prices are going.

the auto ones can be imported for 12 - 13k landed and complied without much fuss. obviously will be a series 1 with a bit of k's on the clock... manual examples typically go for at least $5k more.

back at the stage i had my money i was deciding on a jzx90 mark2 or the aristo, went for the aristo because its something different!

but i must say i would love a manual jzx100 but must be a TOURER V! much better styleing, and i think once i get over the aristo a 90,100 will or 110 hopefully be on the cards!

and i wouldnt worry about the 1j as its still a very powerfull engine Very Happy

I get bogans who laugh at my Aristo, cos they think that it is a Camry with Big Cannons out the back. I laugh when i leave them behind. Very Happy

Anyway, i would have a Chaser if it werent so over priced (in my opinion)

JZX100 is my favourite car but when you think about it interior, engine, space, price, the Aristo is a MUCH better car yet I still want a 100?

Maybe as there so hot? I hate to say it but they do look better then an aristo, you could put some volks on it add a carbon fiber hood and put a nice body kit on it...You just cant do that with an Aristo its not a typical Japanese boy racer car.

Aristos hands down. we looked at a jzx100 when drive time did a bit on them a few years back. they were very thin on the ground and they were asking drug money. yes the thing that put me off is they looked "common" akin to most cars currently on the market. the aristo doesnt really look like any car when you think about it. also the donk made the difference. granted a daily seldom reaches the 4 figure power rating but there is a difference when a motor makes good power and when it makes it "reliably". would say the 2jz would be more accredited with the reliability among other things. to me one thing will always remain...a GTS skyline will never be a GTR even with the same motor and a 1jz will always aspire to be a 2jz and ask most people which donk they will prefer and its the 2JZ hands down. the aristo features..forget about it...no competition. Eeek Dance

I was actually going to buy a JZX100. In fact, I had my heart and mind set on it. I changed my mind when I saw my car in the flesh. For the same reasons as others have given, more for your money. The Aristo simply feels more solid than the Chaser. Mind you, I went for a '96 Aristo and I don't think I would have gone for an older car. At the time I was looking at a 98 Chaser.

I still like the Chaser, but in my mind I think that the Aristo is actually a bigger head turner than the Chaser as it seams to be so dam different from anything else. I don't know why, but sometimes I look at my car from some angles and think, man that is the hottest car ever and other times I think it is quite ugly. (I think I love the fornt and rear quarter panels the most.) The Chaser is nicer looking all the time, from all angles but unless you have a good body kit and I am a fan of the TRD kit, then it is simply too plain.
