just a question while i was under the dash, but what is the black button under the accelerator pedal?

is it the fuel pump switch to make it 12v once your foot is flat to the floor and presses the button?

Probably auto kick down switch. I believe these were only on one of the Aristos either series 1 or 2. What year is yours?

That would make sense then.. they were in the series 1 but were taken out for the series 2 as people found them "unintuitive" i think... they instead made the auto ecu kick down easier electronically, instead of the kinda manual override kickdown which would just about kickdown regardless of what gear/speed you were doing.

Edit: At least that's what I think I've been told...

I had the same thought about the button so as curious as i was, i pressed it with my toe while i was cruising expecting it to maybe drop a cog but did nothing. I guess it wont work unless ur on WOT.

Another possibility is that the button is there to cut out the A/C (if you have it on) to give the car full power when u floor it so the eng is not driving the A/C compressor.

I read the manual on a HSV commo once which said that it will cut out the A/C under full throttle.

In my old Holdens those kickdown switches would only kick the auto down when the throttle was down a certain amount. And some cars do switch off the aircon under WOT

i like my kickdown switch, i find that you can do some "tricky" things with the auto once u get the feel for it for a while, like feeling the difference between wot on the pedal but not enough to press the kick down switch, i also find u can force the auto to change when u want it to via releasing the pedal just enough to dissenguage the kick down but still staying at wot.
