What cooler kit was that sleeper? Seems like a good price for fitting if that was a complete kit with just a little work to fit it.

It seems people are getting varied reports from a few places,no one tried the big performance places like mercury or millennium motorsports?I'm looking at a link ecu and i know millennium like to tune them, hopefully we get more posts on tuners and can make up a list for easy access.

Nick 05 What you had done i wouldnt consider a Dyno Tune

You had an issue with your car, A dyno was used to help diagnos that issue but you dont have an Aftermarket ecu / piggy back for any adjustments to be made to the afr/timing tables so nothing was 'tuned' You had diagnos work done which involved the use of the dyno, Diagnosing issues can be time consuming, unfornatatly there is a constant rate to charge for x problem, as different people will find the same issue in a different time frame

The people who you are bagging on a public forum might be good at tuning aftermarket ecu's etc which by the sounds of it is something they do often...

Like any industry these days, you are payin for peoples expertise alot of the time, not a hourly rate as such... Which i would consider fair as with aftermarket industry alot of the expertise and knowledge takes alot of years to learn, there is no text book

As to what is needed, and what shops recommend can be very different, i was told to get 800cc injector's for my setup and a full aftermarket ecu.. which is way overkill... and i have known this person for 3-4 years and he still said he wont touch it unless i get a full aftermarket ecu (he is also the only local workshop with a dyno in a smallish town) So i took my car somewhere else, but he was trying to protect himself if anything had gone wrong (wasnt familar with 2j's hence wanting full control)

Tuning + installation cost will be different on every setup / ecu as alot of the ecu's work in different ways which will cause some ecu's to take longer to tune than others

IMO... 4.5k probally sounds right for an over the phone quote on an unknown setup, prices and peoples opion of someones work will always change as everyone expects something different from the same work performed... One of my previous cars had Trans shifting issues with the tune, i wouldnt consider the tune bad but someone else might, i lived with the issue as the car did what i asked (issue was only in 'normal mode', with shifts been a little to harsh, and bit of limiter on full throttle changes, was perfect in 'performance mode') When i took the car into get tuned i wanted to ran 12.99... I ran serveral 13.0x which was close enough, Same car, two different opions could have been made by different people

DVS2JZ...you are dead right mate.! and right here and now i would like to apologise (publicly) on this forum , for as you say "bagging said firm" for something that as quoted, when tuning/ finding problems with an engine IS time consuming , and as such can work out expensive....?

if members here will bear with me, i will explain EXACTLY why my car went in for "charged work" and yes after doing a bit of asking around . picked this tuner !

my car apart from a few "mods" is basically stock. i run a mines ecu . and if my car "farts" in the wrong direction i am under the bonnet to find out why..?
at the time my car would NOT idle . or when it did i could catch the fuel coming out of the rear exhaust pipes and use them again.! under 3500 revs there was no performance at all just spitting and farting !

after being charged $600 and YES this company did give my car a fair amount of "dyno time" my car WAS no better !!!
the firm in question spent time by-passing my AICV i think you call it ? being they believed this to be the problem..?
the car NOW idled above the 1000rpm mark, so when i selected "D" the car would not stall....?
THIS..i could not live with.
so i quickly reverted the car back to as it should be!!

after spending countless hours under my bonnet and getting no-where Mad i proceeded to start to annoy the members on here and ask a heap of questions..?
after a short while, a long time member here "asking more than once" told me to REPLACE my "02" sensor !!
THIS...i had done not more than 500 kys ago...so to be honest ignored this thinking it could not possibly be the problem ..? .....................( IT WAS !!! )

THE ABOVE.....completely transformed my car , back to the way a 2J should run / idle and i was a happy jzs147 owner again..!!
this in my eyes EXPERT advise cost me nothing !! Cool the member had not evan looked at my car..!!
( lives a long way from me )
now remember.....this firm had my car a long time !!!! it had a lot of dyno time...!!!'
BUT...F.F.SAKE..! Suprised could NOT diagnose a shot "O2" sensor...........????? $600 thankyou..!!!

i dont know if this firm is good at tuning A/ M ECU,s ??? nor do i care...!!!
they will NOT be getting any more time / money out of me.............and never will...!!!!! NICK .

It was to fit the trust greddy intercoller kit.

I will not go back to Mercury. I had my 100thou service done through them and had a written quote for labour + for them to supply the harmonic balancer. I supplied all other parts
I also supplied all the oil for the trans flush.

I go to pick up the car, which was over the time they indicated, and they had not bothered in getting a new harmonic balancer, just said they would keep an eye on it each time its in for a service Nervous Said they very rarley fail.
The did not do a full trans flush, great now I have a mix of unknown old oil and new toyota oil in there.
Then they proceded to tell me the water pump or hydro pump what ever it is I can't remember was imposible to get out and took them ages, so they raised the price substancialy over the quote that was given.

101 - may take my car most prob either here (i personally know the owner ) or
gt auto - may take my car here - is a little expensive though.

im leaning towards 101 and so is my brother to get stuff done on his car

Do NOT take your car to GT auto garage they stuffed my car up completely am just about to make a formal complaint to the office of fair trading, 2K and my second turbo wouldn't boost, front bar wouldn't fit properly, paint was chipped off and fog light was damaged. I am using JW automotive in ormiston now he fixed the hose connections which gt auto garage did and had the car boosting fine again in 3 hours. Gt Auto had the car for 3 weeks and they gave up telling me my second turbo must be stuffed.

Thanks, now just figuring out weather it's better to buy the kit and get it fitted or just to pay the 1200 and get a custom job done coz its gonna work out to about 1k for the kit and fitting anyway or I can go the custom way and have 3in piping and can get added to later if I wanna go big single. Thanks for the help tho. Back to the same thing tho where to get the work done

That'd be $655 just for kit, honestly fit it yourself it isnt rocket scienece. At the end of the day youve achieved something on your car & you can say i installed it myself.

Trust LS kit only!
Fitting cost a little extra from my mechanic..
I've got zero room to work on a car, only out on the street.. Otherwise I would have attacked it myself..
Yep great instructions... Just follow the pictures unless you can read Japanese Smiley

my BITCH...for the day lads...i have been on the phone .....TRYING to find a "tuner" that is willing to have a go with my 147...and FIX..its idleing problems... Sad
( i have explained i do not need "dyno time" or stuff like this . just re-set all my factory settings ! )

and to be honest, have not had a lot of fkn luck..!
the best chat i had was with a bloke from "hi power racing"...seemed an easy to talk to fella..? (not the boss)

after stating my case with the car and what i would like to see happen to it ....IF THEY CAN..?
i was told he would get " the boss" to call me...! (I have no problems with this at all ) Smile .............................. I AM STILL WAITING..! Mad

i have had a go at contacting " matt spri" and left a message to please get back to me when time permits..................................... I AM STILL WAITING !!!

I ASK AGAIN...LADS.. is there a "tuner" out there around the gold coast / brizzy area...that is ANY GOOD............. mainly with a 2J...of course..?
that offers that stuff....... that tuners... used to offer years ago..................... Confused SERVICE..!!!! nick Mad

Why James?

Get the stock toyota service manuals and work from there..

You will get a much better result than letting any one else touch your car..

chappo.... i tell ya mate...i am over a 2J ...RIGHT NOW !!

it IS getting worse..? i have the wife busting my nuts..! work has gone crazy just lately..! i have NO time.

it is "humping" again on idle ,just like before the "tune" i got.... Nervous i have done my homework...well some.. and removed and tested the 02 sensor . this seems to be within the range the experts say it should be..?
i have changed the throttle body for a "unmolested unit" ie:: sensors not removed or played with !

i have replaced the water temp sensor . replaced the rest of the hoses i was to lazy to do because they are in a p&$ck of a place to get too.

i have pulled all plugs checked/ cleaned / re-gaped and put back. checked ALL coil packs...a couple needed work or wires replaced....NOTE ..it is surprising what you see when you have the car running at night in the garage WITH ...the light turned off, and car running.... Nervous Suprised

get the thing OFF idle and kick its arse...and it seems to get up and boogy..? 2nd turbo is coming on strong and giving me 17 psi on full song...
BUT... i am going though fuel..AGAIN.... Nervous dont really have to check the gauge.... it is all over the rear bumper ....( black soot )

THIS ABOVE...mate is beyond me..? i dont want to replace the 02 just yet..? cause IF its this again..?
it will get a OEM..expensive unit ...this time round..!! Very Happy

i am bugging a tad ....ems3s.. for another IACV from him.... and i am sure i am one more PM, away from him telling me to get rooted..!!!! LOL

i do believe mate this thing of mine NEEDS to go on a "diagnostic machine " if thats what you call it / them
and the thing run up though the rev range...and find the faults..?

up the drive ..if i start it and warm it up...and take it to 2800 to 3200 on the tacho.....the thing SHITS ITSELF..! and sounds like a chaff cutter..? spitting & farting all over the place.....?
