Hey team, before you flame my arse off for not searching....which i did to no avail -___-
Anyway, will be doing a pretty intense 72 hour weeks at work for a while, which I'll have some extra cash to blow.....well, invest in the Aristo (which currently has a BHG Sad . )

I'm really keen for a manual swap, R154 of course. Could anyone who's been down this path shed some light on it for me? Dont think its a job that I wold try to tackle myself, have nor the mechanical experience or time for such a job. Thus making it an expensive project ie. labour.
It's either that, or highflowed and steel wheel the twins, and an auto box upgrade. Anyone have any pros/cons?

(also would LOVE a twin upgrade (ie. bigger second turbo?)

THANKSSSS!!! Very Happy Very Happy

mate done several r154 conversions manual conversion on an aristo is about the best mod you can do in my book then a single turbo conversion Wink

if you want any info there are a few guys who have done it and are in the process of doing it

there is a few getrag 6 speeds kicking around atm too if your budget can stretch a little much better option

I heard of people using W58 boxes..not that its the path I want to go down.
Definately cant afford to go with the 6sp Getrag...(though I really would fricking love to.)

Just out of curiosity, how much in labour would I be looking at? :/ Providing that i suply all the parts etc. would hate to buy everything, then get hit with an effing crazy labour bill Sad

I'd go with the R145, heard it fits in a lot easier compared to the Getrag, with needs some trans tunnel persuasion :p
List of parts I'll need....anyone who's done this before??

for all the trouble and effort converting i would just go a getrag bit more effort but its going last and its a one time job Smiley price wise maybe 500-1200 differance between the two ...........if i had to use an r154 i would go for the lastest model you can find in the r154 come's out in ie jzx100/110 chaser different internals

you need flywheel/clutch plus bolts etc
master & slave cylinder's with lines
clutch pedal...............jzx90 perfered
transmission tunnel mount
custom tailshaft
r154 gearbox and crossmember
pending what r154 you use shifter/shifter housing may need modifing
if usiing auto compter you need to do some wiring to trick it to drive/start etc or go a supra mines ecu like i did cheap as chips under 300 for an off tap one

Ooo tasty :p
Considering a JZX100 front cut just for the gearbox..then get a 1J out of it haha.
Wouldnt recommend a jzx90 5sp? or MA series 5sp?
Only other mods I'm looking at in the near future are steel wheel and high flowed twins.

Go the 5spd fits so much easier then the behemoth 6spd, had the pleasure of helping out fitting both to my car and others and the R154 was heaps easier with fitment.....

Clutches are worth about the same for both boxes but id go a twin plate for the 5 banger.

If you require pedals and a handbrake pretty sure ive a complete set for you, providing your cut / package doesnt have those items.

Fit it yourself only way you'll learn & hopefully you've a daily driver to get round this too.

Thanks so much guys!!!
Unfortunately I dont have the extra cash atm and wont have any time at all til i finish my 72 hour weeks at work -_____-
I'll be saving this thread and hitting you guys up asap (providing something doesnt come up -__- )

So the JZX90 R154 will handle a 300rwkw 2J? Mine is only about 220-250rwkws atm, but have a highflow and steel wheel upgrade in mind and a few bits and pieces.
Thanks again, actual best fucking forum community right here haha.

Chappo and Simpo are the Experts in this as they have done this a bit now these parts will def increase strength and longevity of box but its still the way you drive !!!!!

ive read several horror stories on Supra Forums of Guys in US Running Slicks on Street!!! being the main reason why they Shitting third gear even with Full marlin Crawler Parts installed!!!!!! As it couldn't break traction fast enough to save the gear!!!!! I know of the 1st 2nd gear thrust washer problem! but this is fixed with the replacement of the washer. the JZX100/JZZ30 Boxes have triple synchro's which aid in its strength meaning the later boxes are tougher than the older JZA70's boxes

However all these Extreme Failures under load seem to happen on 500hp+ cars so 300rwkw should be Fine with thrustwasher and shifter fork upgraded.

for me its tooo much of a time bomb this is why I want to save up for the Getrag!!!! but again its the torque not the power that stuffs it. plenty of 700hp built marlin crawler r154's running around just depends how they are treated..

Wouldnt say there to suit a 147 as all handbrakes require modding to fit.

Think it s JZA80 handbrake from memory.
