Been a while since I've posted on here. I was involved in an accident today when a guy in ute forgot how roundabouts worked and turned right in front of me. I don't have comprehensive insurance and am relying on this guys third party to pay for my car.
As I've never been in this situation I was wanting to get some advice from guys who have been unfortunate enough to see their 'Risty's with war wounds.
I want to know the following;
1. How easy/hard is it to get panels for the Aristo?
2.What happens with repair to where my body is all damaged around the fuel filler area which actually part of the main shell?
3. How much will insurance pay before declaring the car a write-off and what kind of payouts have they offered in the past?
4. Will insurance pay for any damage to my intercooler and piping?
5. My brakes are feeling really spongey since the accident and when I reverse with my foot touching the brake to park in my garage there's a series of rapid clunking sounds from the wheel that was hit worst. Could this be my brake disc/caliper/brake fluid feed or brake booster affected from the crash?
6. My seatbelt holder at the top is now all cracked after the seat belt locked, can I claim this?
7. Any general advice for making sure I get everything I am entitled to?
In regards to the rear section a newer half will need to be seam welded back on, im thinking car will be written or financially written off if that's the case.
4k+ right there.... _________________

Not sure of other states but as of jan 2011 , written off vechcles in nsw are never to be registered again unless the owner of the vehicle ( at the time of accedent) applys to the rta to get it repaired.

Fucking stalker
The insurance companies typically declare a vehicle a financial write off if the cost of repairs exceeds a certain percentage of the market price of the car, or agreed value if it's your insurer and you took that option. In most cases it's 70 - 75% but they are all different. Given the current state of bullshit values on these cars I'd say you are shit out of luck unless they get some dodgy quote and try to lowball you.
Everything consequentially damaged in the accident is considered part of the claim.
Panels will have to be imported and that particular panel is never going to be available as a second hand item. You may find that the c pillar has been compromised and that is an instant write off. The noise in your driveline suggests that at least part of the impact was taken to the wheel, this could be fucking serious and I would refrain from driving it.
Mate at the end of the day you should have had comprehensive insurance. Figure out what the car owes you (I hope to god you have no finance on it because they will fuck you hard when they find out you had no comp) and then talk to the insurer as soon as possible. get 2 quotes yourself and then price a replacement car. Use online car ads as that's what most of these companies use to determine market value. Be prepared to be dicked around, you are joe shitbox and they are the big bad insurance company.
Good luck and get some fucking insurance next time eh? 3rd party, fire & theft cover is for assholes driving VT commodores.

agreed, my car is covered for $15k which is a lot more than I'd get if I sold it. Do I want to go through all that insurance bullshit? hell no but for $70 a month it's worth it if the unthinkable happens.
The way I see it, if I can't afford $70 a month for comprehensive insurance then I can't afford to own the car.

Luckily I'm not caught in any finance traps, and the car is still driveable to a point. Sadly I'm not at that magical age of 25 (or more) where on that exact day you suddenly become an awesome driver and your premiums drop, but that's life.
You gave a pretty strong indication that it would be written off. It's a '93 model Aristo, single turbo conversion. Any ideas on what kind of payout figure they would go for, and whether it would be worth buying the 'wreck' back and parting out?
Redbook gives me a little hope that I can at least get $10k but I know there's another car 'bible' insurers use also.
I'll check out Douglas and Miller too, where are they located? Am already booked in with Combined Auto Repairs and Doolans for quotes. _________________

They count modifications against you most of the time unless you have agreed value on a comp policy and they have agreed to cover it. Do NOT mention performance upgrades in this case or they will have their assessor deem the car illegal and you are fucked if it isn't blue plated. You have the upper hand right now in law because the driver hit you but don't give them an out for fucks' sake.
Step this thing down the line and get what you can. I'm not going to offer any other advice other than document the fuck out of everything you do. Get a dairy and take the names. times and dates of EVERY convo you have with them. If there is a police report GET IT.
Have some patience because they will drag it out and try to distract you and catch you out or wear you down to take less money. NEVER tell them that you are fucked for a car to drive or anything like that - tell them it's your weekender and you have all the time in the world.
Fuck I said no more advice and I mean it now, I could be wrong but being paranoid means that you are never surprised.

OK, just had it assessed. Not suprisingly, very hard to get parts. Panel beaters have said $12-$14k to get fixed. Car will now be written off.
I already know I want to part this thing out. Erwin (SAM 16) left a note on my car yesterday saying he wants first dibs. Once the payout is sorted and I buy the wreck back I'll have a day at my folks' farm where whoever wants things off the car can come out and grab them because I honestly don't have the know-how to do things like remove the engine and turbo myself.
Parts that may interest people -
2JZ-GTE, I had just spent $2k getting a new water pump, front and rear main seals, timing belt and other parts installed. These have done less than 1,000kms.
Fully rebuilt LSD, I had only bought this off Diego around November. Full Diff in housing, with royal purple diff oil.
SARD Fuel Pressure Regulator
WALBRO In Tankk Fuel Pump
TIAL External Wastegate
Transmission/Power Steering Cooler
Greddy FMIC With Piping
Apexi SAFCII
Greddy Profec B Boost Controller
GT42R Replica Turbo
Custom Exhaust Manifold
Custom Stainless Exhaust And Mufflers
Drift Pod Filter

Not suprised they wrote the car off with that damage, newer car with easier to get hold of parts it'd of been salvaged but being old and JDM import forget about it.
How much will the wreck cost to buy back ? I bet they'd want a fair bit for it unless you can negotiate for it ?
Im thinking 4k+ at minimum.....
Wouldnt get to far ahead of yourself until you know how much they want to piss the wreck off for, because knowing some assessors and insurance companies they like to make life difficult.
Also limiting yourself by only offering to locals for most parts.
Aristo's arent hard to dismantle with my Sidchrome sockets sets and cheap shit tools and have pulled so many to pieces it aint funny !
Disregard my above post if you've already been informed of the buy back price _________________

Shannons wrote off my last Aristo last year... overall, I had pretty good dealings with them. They paid up all good, relatively little hassle.. they overpriced the buyback, but I ended up picking it up cheap on auction. but then it was compo _________________

That was a great win there Russ, remember it well at the old drowned / hail car auctions
Yours was fuckin ridiculous the figure they wanted for it but in the end you won because you were determined !
