QUEENSLANDERS will be able to report car hoons through a special police hotline next month under plans to combat the thousands of revheads terrorising neighbourhoods across the state.
Police Minister Neil Roberts will on Sunday reveal December 13 as the launch day for a new phone line - 13HOON - aimed at providing a memorable contact point and reducing the burden on triple-0.
On Saturday Mr Roberts said people would be able to provide details including the hoon's car registration, vehicle description and location of the hooning when they called.
"Queenslanders told us that they were fed up with hoons taking to our streets doing burn-outs, engaging in illegal drag racing and generally driving in an unsafe manner," he told The Sunday Mail.
Incidents with no immediate danger will be forwarded to a police operations centre to have units respond when available, but triple-0 should still be called for urgent hoon cases.

More than 23,000 vehicles have been impounded for 48 hours since anti-hooning laws were introduced in 2002.
RACQ spokesman Paul Turner on Saturday welcomed the move but raised concerns car lovers may be wrongly targeted if the hotline was misused.
"We would encourage any initiative that makes it safer for motorists," he said.
Brisbane Districts Street Car Club president James Rigg on Saturday said his group was often mistaken for hoons when they gathered to appreciate each others' cars.
"Within our club we promote safety and driving responsibly for all our members to do the right thing, so this is a good move," Mr Rigg said. "The more they crack down on it the better because if it gets worse the Government might not let older cars or cars with modifications on the roads at all."
Mr Roberts said the new hotline gave an easy-to-remember central contact point to report hoons.
"The Queensland Police Service emphasises that community members should not place themselves at risk to report this antisocial behaviour," he said.
"For incidents which have occurred, the information phoned through to 13HOON will be detailed to police for follow-up and further investigation."
Great, now every passive aggressive arsehole I overtake who is under speeding or right lane hogging will be able to call and embellish my driving to the cops. I can't see that it would carry any weight as evidence of wrongdoing since it's hearsay but who needs the attention?

This seems pointless - they could already do so - the cops simply don't have the resources to deal with additional calls let alone all the 'work' they're supposed to be doing now. And calling Triple 0 to deal with "urgent hoon cases"? well fuck me, next time I see some soccer mum doing 90 in a 60 zone in her bigass 4wd, triple zero it is. After all, the police minister said so.

Works great in SA, I had some feral bitch tailgating me so I applied the brakes with to give her a hint, she screeches a bit and pisses off down a side street.
2 weeks later I get a letter from the police saying that I was tailgating her, tooting my horn and yelling abuse
Cunt. Now I have a notepad and pen in my car so when incidents like this occur I can get a letter sent back their way.
When I rang the call centre to complain they basically told me there is no accountability and that any random can ring and dob someone in. Seems like a big wank fest by the cops.

Yeah prob is, hyperthetical situation my neighbour hates my loud exhaust, so calls this hotline every couple of days and says im speeding up the street everytime I come and go. Eventually the cops are going to roll arround and even thought they cant do you for speeding they will go over your car and hand you 2 handfulls of defect notices and a court date to go with them.
Simply because someone who doesent like the fact your car is a little bit noisey wants to be a cunt. If I was living in QLD I would be noting down every car i saw driving like a tool and call that no. regularly. Really car lovers just need to band together and boycot state elections on a massive scale maybe hold a protest on the day. That would send a message to governments saying that we dont like how we are being treated and we a functioning members of society who vote and in turn have a say who gets to run the state.
the prob is no one will band together and do something about it they get on forums like this a winge but when it comes down to doin something they always leave it for someone else to do it so DO SOMETHING about if you don't like it start a petition _________________

I'm pretty sure we're past the point of 'special interest groups' (i.e. us) getting anything done just by "banding together". We're just so seriously outnumbered by old coots and religious nutters.

so when this 13hoon opens then ring up and flood the call center with regos from government cars and the likes of normal people how will ring there local member and complain. eg any police car, camera vans, busses, councilors cars, rich cars, soccer mums cars, and this will show them that the system is flawed and can be abused by people how have a grudge against anyone with out proof . and there for is against our right's were you are innocent till proven guilty . I really don't see what all the fuss is about. While there may be some people that abuse the system as in the example lachland_vlt gave, there are many people who do incredibly retarded things on the street and deserve to be busted for it. If you absolutely have to be thrashing on the street at least have the decency to do it in the middle of nowhere where no one will dob you in and your less likely to kill someone else.
yep with you there there is no need for retarded shit on the road there are more than enough places to race . drag . drift on tracks but i am sick of people who think just because my misses wrx has a front mount it is a hoons car or just because i do the speed limit in the rain i am hooning _________________
