Just a thought,
Our Aristos are aging fast, the 2J is a great motor, but showing its age a little...

anyhow, it got me thinking.
as far as Toyota sports cars go, they are pretty limited now (maybe all that EPA and so took the fun out of it!Rant)
after the Aristo, there was still the Turbo MKii, Chaser,
and after that, I don't know...
new celicas & MR2's are for hairdressers,
there is the odd TRD Camry and so.

So, are we dealing with the last of the performance toyotas? Nervous
any thoughts?

Looks a bit like a hairdressers car with a subaru engine. (Bit sad Sad )
anything sporty seems to be headed by Lexus,
which will put the average car buff out of the equation.

What about the new IS350 Sports???

OK @ $70,000+ a bit out of most ppls range, but maybe ok in the secondhand market.

I will be living in Japan next year. I have my eye on either a JZS161 or maybe even an Altezza???

IS350 looks the goods, but is not real powerful compared to the current crop of xr6 turbos and R8s on the market. More refined, sure, but performance is still lacking.

If I lived in Japan I would buy a full house R34 GTR or Supra to roam around in. Or some old school Toyota modified off its tits. They love it over there

Isn't the IS350 front wheel drive? GS430 is nice but no turbo option and the fastback isn't everyone's cup 'o tea.

JZX110 seems to be most recent that's importable but that's still just a Chaser basically. KE70's are the flavour of the month here in SA at least, people are tripping over themselves and paying big money for nice ones. Which shits me because I had one years ago and it was mint and everyone gave me so much shit for it. Rant

Sad as it seems I think we're seeing the last of the performance everythings. People are just settling for hatchbacks and front wheel drive sedans, or big muscle utes. When Ford stops making a dedicated Australian rwd platform to compete with Holden, I can't see GM keeping the series going for more than another decade or so, in rear wheel drive at least when they can make a fwd for cheaper.

Get rich, buy exotics. Thats what the future holds for performance cars.

Toyota pulled all their money from F1 and put it towards 'green' car technology. So basically, no more fast cars from Toyota

IS350 is RWD.

Australia becomes only the fourth market to receive the full cream IS V6 (the 250 runs a 2.5-litre six).

The IS 350 is powered by a quad-cam 3.5-litre six mated to a six-speed sequential automatic transmission, developing 228kW and 375Nm. That’s good enough to get the Lexus from standing to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds – some three ticks of the clock quicker than the IS250.

With an output of 233kW, the normally aspirated IS350 also boasts more power than its closest rival, the BMW 335i which produces 225kW from its turbocharged six-cylinder. Lexus says its sedan also sets the class benchmark for standing-start acceleration, with a 0-100km/h time of 5.6 seconds.

You don't always require a turbo to go fast. Very Happy

Read up on it first, before making judgment. Very Happy

The concept of the ft-86 seems promising, (toyota offering relatively cheap rwd performance car)

Has anyone else seen a photo of the jzs147 with a gs430 front end? It looks absolutely pimp, new contemporary front(removes any hint of camry) and that beautiful risto back end. Saw it once randomly and could never find it again

its just really bad that now anything in the 2** kw is just not enough these days.

the new ford FPV supercharged 5L, has a 335kw badge, perth grabbed one and tested it. 12.6 i think it was... dead stock, manual.

so they dyno'd it. 353rwkw

thought nah dyno's out took it to another... 330rwkw first run, 350rwkw second run

The IS350 Specs look promising,
very good for a n/a 6.
maybe most Japanese car manufactures have gone the way of Green/safe cars
not much fun if you can't modify and play IMO Very Happy

Well i think in the near future everyone would drive either hybrids or shitty 1.2L engines. As the petrol prices goes up and up. So unfortunately not many high HP petrol engines/Cars would be out. But would be replaced with something else. Just like in Europe

They look mad dropped with a kit and some nice rims, stock as a rock they look pretty lame.

Still, I'm keen once the Aristo is done with, otherwise it will be a BMW or Audi
